Burnout Is More Than Being Tired
“I just need a good weekend” — and then it comes and goes and you still feel hollow. What you're facing may not be ordinary tiredness. It may be burnout, and burnout doesn't resolve with a nap.
Burnout vs. stress
Stress eases when pressure lets up. Burnout is what happens after prolonged stress with too little relief — especially common in people who care a lot and carry a lot: professionals, leaders, healthcare and service workers, caregivers.
What it can look like
- Exhaustion that rest doesn't fix
- Growing cynicism or dread about work
- Feeling ineffective no matter how hard you try
- Irritability, trouble sleeping, physical symptoms
Why “just rest” isn't enough
Burnout usually needs more: honest boundaries, changes to what's draining you, and sometimes treatment for the anxiety or depression it can slide into. It's a signal worth listening to.
Having led teams myself, I understand these pressures. If you're running on empty, you don't have to push through alone.
