G&B Integrative Psychiatry offers perinatal and postpartum mental health care in Honolulu (Nuʻuanu) and by telehealth across Hawaiʻi with Kimberly Gibu, DNP, PMHNP-BC, in English or Tagalog.
What it can feel like
Pregnancy and new parenthood can bring real joy and real strain at the same time. Some parents feel persistent anxiety or low mood, intrusive worries, trouble sleeping even when the baby sleeps, or difficulty feeling connected. This is more common than many people realize, and it is not a sign of failure or weakness. Only an evaluation can tell what’s going on and what would help.
Who it’s for
- People who are pregnant or trying to conceive and struggling emotionally
- New parents feeling anxious, low, or not like themselves after birth
- Partners affected by the transition to parenthood
- Anyone who wants support that takes pregnancy and feeding into account
What to expect
The first visit is a 60-minute evaluation that takes your whole situation into account — your history, your pregnancy or postpartum stage, and your goals. We build a plan together and follow up in person or by video.
How G&B approaches it
Care often centers on psychotherapy and practical support for sleep, stress, and connection. Decisions about medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding are made carefully and together, weighing benefits and risks. Medication options are discussed after a full evaluation.

Common questions
Is it normal to feel this way during pregnancy or after birth?
Many parents do, and it’s worth taking seriously rather than waiting it out alone. An evaluation can help you understand what’s happening.
Can I get help if I’m breastfeeding or pregnant?
Yes. Decisions about medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding are made carefully and together, weighing benefits and risks; therapy and other support are always available.
Can I be seen by telehealth with a newborn at home?
Yes, for patients located in Hawaiʻi at the time of the visit — often a good fit for new parents.
What if I’m having scary or intrusive thoughts?
These are common and worth talking about, and having them doesn’t mean you’ll act on them. But if you feel you might act on a thought, or you notice confusion, not sleeping for days, or seeing or hearing things others don’t, that can be a medical emergency: call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For crisis support, call or text 988.
